The ideal in this environment is that the child will gradually understand that writing has a social function.

I am an English language teacher in one of the Abu Dhabi Nurseries. I am able to drive these 5 simple tips that will help your child in the literacy process.

Literacy Activities

1. Culinary Activities
Invite your child to participate in a home cooking in a fun way, questioning what we are going to do now. Example ... let me see what is written here in the recipe.

2- Read Stories
Read stories to your child, he will only form values from the example, a reading family will form children readers.

3- Encourage your child to write
Always write. Encourage your child to write, always have pencils and paper at home. This is to include the child in the forms of communication that the family adopts, such as:

  • Make the grocery list together;
  • Invite to name photo albums;
  • Make card for fathers, mothers, grandparents;
  • Set up a phone book with him;
  • Make birthday invitations.
4- Use your child to read labels and packaging
Make him do it at home. He becomes familiar with them, gradually he will associate the image with writing. What is of advantage is that most of the time the letter of the products is stick.

5 - Encourage writing, beginning with a stick letter
We use the stick at the beginning of the literacy process so the child can differentiate where a word starts and ends. It is normal that when starting the cursive letter the stroke of this letter is not readable. What can be done is to work with the child's motor coordination to improve this process, with practice it will improve and improve the aesthetics of writing.

Conclusion
If the letter of your child does not look beautiful, no problem, the intention is that he can read as well as understand what is written. Encourage the child, praise, encourage.  Misleading in writing in this literacy process is normal. Always ask questions by asking your child to seek answers.
